Portchie was born and raised in the Free State, and matriculated in 1981 at the Paul Roos Gymnasium in Stellenbosch.
On demand of 2 friends who wanted to share a small studio with him, in 1992 Portchie started painting. He has had several solo and group exhibitions.
“I do a wide variety of work from expressionistic and impressionistic, bright, warm, and happy colors. My trees are always blue because the air filtrates through the trees. Trees are strong and blue is a very strong color for me. I’m crazy about the feeling of washing: good, clean, fresh and free. In each painting I do I put a little bit of myself, and at the end of the day I really sell a bit of my love for life.”
Sculpture Artwork of Portchie exhibited at Crouse Art Gallery. Original art of more than 60 top South African Artists – Since 1999.
