Mind Shana was born on the 25th January 1983 in Zimbabwe. Mind Shana is a young expressionist artist from Middelburg , South Africa , known for his vivid portrayals of the world as witnessed through his artistic lens. His tenacity in stroke and boldness of interpretation puts his style in the shadows of Makiwa Mtomba.
From his childhood he always had a keen interest in drawing and over the years developed a passion for art. After school he went on to study for a diploma in accounting, but shortly after decided to follow his dream of becoming an artist. Even though he never received any formal training he started painting in 2002 and became a commercial artist in 2003. In 2006 he partook in the Black Like Us Art Exhibition after which he became a fine artist.
Since that first exhibition he has received an award for a “Highly Recommended Painting” at the Manor Gallery, Black Like Us Art Exhibition in 2007. At the Manor Gallery, Black Like Us Art Exhibition in 2008 he received the award for the “Best Painting on Show” and also the First Prize. In 2009 at the Manor Gallery, Black Like Us Art Exhibition he received an award for a “Highly Recommended Painting” and also the Third Prize. His work is now exhibited at various art galleries in South Africa.
Mind is a believing Christian and receives inspiration from the Bible, the following scriptures are close to his heart: “Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report, if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.” Philippians 4:9 and ” And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men.” Colossians 3:23.
