Conrad Theys
Conrad Theys was born in Montagu, Western Cape, in 1940. He spent his childhood in Loeriesfontein in the Northern Cape and completed his matriculation at Northern Paarl High School. In 1961, he graduated as a teacher from Brighton College in Oudtshoorn, near George.
In 1969 and 1970, Theys studied art under renowned artist Gregoire Boonzaier and became a full-time artist in 1974. Later, in 1981–1982, he expanded his skills in graphic art under Edwine Simon at the Ruth Prowse School of Art in Cape Town.
Theys’ works are included in the collections of various prestigious institutions such as the SABC, the National Art Museum, Life Grow, and Rand Merchant Bank. In 1996, he was elected President of the South African Art Society. The University of Pretoria honored him with a Doctorate in Literature and Philosophy in 2004.
